, it is a messy morning on the west coast. the latest on powerful storms pounding north california, oregon, and washington as we speak. nbc's migel almaguer is in san francisco where it is pouring down rain. migel, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are in the middle of the second weather maker making it through the pacific northwest. i have to tell you, it feels like san francisco is in the bull's eye. it was hammering rain earlier for several hours, then had howling winds. the conditions let up. meteorologists say this is what to expect through the day. as a matter of fact, early in the week in san francisco wednesday, wind speeds topped 80 miles per hour. they're not expecting those type of winds earlier or later today, but they certainly are expecting downed trees and downed power lines to cause them several issues. at the higher elevations, closer to 7,000 feet in the sierra, they're expecting up to a foot of snow, so it is going to be certainly a wet day in the sierra, in the lower elevations, closer in the lower foothills, we expect up to 12 inches of rain by sunday

, going to be a big push of rain and very wet, especially in central and northern california, southern oregon for the second half of the week. cold air remains to the north. high temperature, 30 degrees in minneapolis. that's going to be it. we're going to see quiet weather return to much of the east coast and the south. mild air building in. 70 degrees in dallas. 60 in kansas city. the west stays unsettled here as we'll see rain and snow through the higher elevations in idaho. quiet for most areas. 2/3 of the country will be quiet on friday. there will be a chance for showers around the lakes and parts of east texas and louisiana and the extreme southern portion of florida. saturday, still the west here going to stay unsettled and the great lakes with a chance of showers. northeast, highs in the low to mid 40s. mild if not warm in the south. houston to dallas, upper 70s. unsettled in the pacific northwest. on sunday, still more of the same for the west. still a chance for rain. this goes down to the central and southern parts of california, a chance of few showers. more rain

morning, everybody. i'm jon kelley. yes, it is election day and california voters have major choices to make decisions that will affect the state for years to come. one of the biggest issues on that ballot is prop 30. he has been pushing this one hard. prop 30 would raise the sales tax, as well as income taxes for the highest earners. that money would then go towards prison realignment, health care and for education. and governor brown is expected to cast his vote on prop 30 any minute now and, of course, the long list of other things to select from and then it is a matter of time for just the watching and waiting. nbc bay area is your home for all election results and our live coverage starts at 4:00 this evening and local cut-ins throughout the night. updating you on all the local and state races. our newscast tonight at 11:00 p.m. will have the results of all your national, state and local races and, of course, tomorrow morning on "today in the bay." that is where you'll want to check in for all the election results that were released overnight. i believed i heard christina loren usi

will be moving into the pacific northwest all the way down into central california. we're talking about rain, wind and mountain snow. you can see the colder air diving in across the rockies here. 41 degrees in minneapolis. that's about it. but warmer air starting to build through the nation's heartland, down across the southern plains. we'll be in the 50s here around new york city. and then by saturday, saturday is still quiet but an area of low pressure will be tracking up the coast off the southeast coast. that will bring large swells, continued swells across the ouncer banks of north carolina where we're already getting some coastal erosion. also impacting rip currents so be aware of that if you're heading out into the water. hopefully not a big time of year for that. rainshowers across northern florida and into central florida. even around orlando. it's still busy in the west. we've got another cold front pushing in for saturday bringing more wet weather with it. 61 in san francisco, 52 in minneapolis. that's your saturday outlook. on sunday, pretty quiet across the area with the ex

is going to be. across the west. we're talking about northern california into oregon and washington. eventually moving into the northern rockies, parts of idaho there looking at some substantial snow the next few days. 36 in minneapolis, 75, however, in dallas. record-setting temperatures possible across parts of oklahoma and texas as far as kansas city we may see some records in the coming days. very warm east of the rockies. notice this warm front we start to see some of the mild air build back up in and around the lakes. not going to be quite as chilly as it has been but very heavy rain, strong winds and high elevation snow for the northwest. be very careful if you're doing any traveling. and be aware that the winds could bring down trees and power lines. we'll be into the 60s here across the ohio valley on saturday. by sunday looking at a few rainshowers in this area. indiana into ohio and the interior northeast. this will be gone by mounday. the cold front that impacted the northwest starts to move across country and cool temperatures off behind it. denver down to 52 degrees by
